Day 02 - Your favourite movie (S)

So, I know that I was bitching yesterday about how hard it is for me to pick a favourite song, but I guess the Blogspot Karma Gods felt guilty about that, 'cause picking my favourite movie is super-duper easy!

Ever since elementary school, I've been spending the majority of my weekday evenings and nights watching movies and/or TV shows with my dad. I know it might sound dorky, but I'm really grateful for the experience, because it's opened me up to so many movies that I would probably never have watched on my own. This is the perfect example of that:

12 Angry Men
(the original, NOT the remake)

I vividly recall my dad having to persuade me to watch this. I didn't want to see it because it's a black-and-white film, and I was convinced that meant it was boooring. I finally relented, and it only took me a couple of minutes to realize just how wrong I was.

From a superficial viewpoint, 12 Angry Men seems pretty simple -- not only is it in black-and-white, but practically the entire movie takes place in one room, and the only featured characters are the jury members -- but it's this simplicity that creates complexity and intrigue.

In case you don't know, the basic premise of the movie is that a 12-member jury has to decide whether or not a teenage boy is guilty of murdering his father. 11 out of the 12 men think he's guilty, for various, not-very-well-thought-out reasons. The one man that dissents spends the rest of the movie trying to convince everyone else to think about the case logically.

Sure, nothing blows up and no one gets naked (which is probably why the movie wasn't a box office blockbuster), but the characters are intense, the acting is absolutely excellent, the dialogue is dramatic, and the plot itself is conflicted and complicated in the most perfect of ways.

It's a really great film, and whether or not you usually watch these kinds of movies, chances are that you'll enjoy this one.

Day 02- Your favourite movie (J)

Whoever thought of this is really bugging me! Why did they choose such difficult questions to start off with?!

Anyways, I am such a movie junkie. When I was a kid, my parents wouldn't get me babysitters. Instead, they would pop in a Disney movie, leave some milk and cookies out and I would be set for the next hour or two. I was (and still am) very easily distracted!

However, I don't think I ever really had a favourite movie. A majority of the movies I watch are cutesy, chick-flick romance comedies or intense action movies or books-turned-into-movies like Harry Potter, Twilight, etc. I'm not really a movie critic, so I watch nearly anything and everything that makes me laugh or draws my attention. But, if I was held at gunpoint and forced to answer this question, then I think I would choose "Bonnie and Clyde."

I feel like a majority of the human population know the story of Bonnie and Clyde, so I won't bore you all with the plot here. This movie makes me want to put on a beret, grab a gorgeous man, and go rob some banks. Besides the beautiful clothes, I love the realness of the movie. I like the fact that when someone gets shot, they literally get blown into pieces, not end up with a hole in their head. And I love how Clyde would stroll right into a bank and just say, "Good afternoon, this is the Burrow gang." Also, Warren Beatty did not look half bad in the 60's. What a man!

I heard there's going to be a remake of this movie with Hilary Duff as Bonnie. If she messes up this movie, I think I'll go shove a gun up her ass and send her back to the Disney Channel.

Do you guys have an all-time favourite movie? Or are you indecisive like yours truly?

Day 01- Your favourite song (S)

Oh, gosh. Why does the 30 Days Challenge start off with such a difficult question?!

It's so hard for me to pick a favourite song, 'cause I'm one of those people who organizes and classifies and specifies way too much. Like, I was using a Label Maker at work the other day, and I labeled the Label Maker. No joke.

So, it comes as no surprise that I have a bunch of different favourite songs and that they change depending on the occasion. Here's what I'm loving right now:

To sing along to in the car:

"California Gurls", by Katy Perry
This song really does epitomize summer. It's light and fun and, no, it doesn't have a deeper meaning or whatever, but it's got a good beat and, hey, who doesn't love Snoop Dogg?!

To wake up to:

"Billionaire" by Travis McCoy, feat. Bruno Mars
It's sweet and lighthearted, and the reggae-inspired beat makes it easy to listen to in the morning. Or, alternatively, in the afternoon, if you're like Jade and consistently wake up after noon. (:

To dance to:

"Bulletproof", by La Roux
It's '80s revival! Of course you can dance to it! Enough said.

To pretend to hate but secretly love:

"Baby" by Justin Bieber, feat. Ludacris
Okay, I know everyone older than 12 is supposed to loathe Justin Bieber -- and I do, I really do! -- but this song is seriously catchy. I still hate his (her?) voice, but the song itself is incredibly contagious.
Don't lie, I know you love it, too. :)

Until tomorrow!
xoxo, Selene

Day 01- Your favourite song (J)

I spent forever thinking about this question, and while listening to my summer playlist while getting ready in the morning (well, MY morning, your early afternoon), I realized I really like the song "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson. He is definitely one of my go-to artists when I'm driving, trying to fall asleep, or relaxing with a tall glass of pink lemonade and a good book. Very relaxing, yet he still makes me want to get up and dance on my bed, singing into my hair brush.

Oh, Jack Johnson, I'll make you banana pancakes anytime... (;

Ins & Outs - July 2010 (J)

So, I sat on my computer chair for a while, sipping Diet Coke and thinking about what I should do for this post, and I decided that Ins and Outs posts are pretty newbie-friendly. Hopefully Selene will also be doing one of these as well!

IN:

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation This is my holy grail foundation. I have oily skin, but this foundation still works wonders. It has medium coverage, but it is buildable, very blendable, and also lets your skin show through. However, the one thing that really got me with this foundation is that it felt like I was wearing a light tinted moisturizer instead of a liquid foundation. Also, I'm pretty sure this foundation has made my skin look better, too! The only downside would be that you have to pour the product out... now, I'm probably the most disoriented person in the morning, so I have spilled a few drops here and there, which is REALLY annoying since the product is pretty pricey. Apparently, the pump's sold seperately. Stupid cheapskates.

EOS lipbalm in Summer Fruit I recently purchased this from my local Walgreens (got the last one!), and I've been reaching for it every five minutes. It smells fantastic, and I have to restrain myself from completely licking it off my lips after every application. It has a very mango-y/berry taste to it -- yummy! Another plus is that it's veryyy eye-catching. Just look at it!
You look like you're applying an egg on your lips! This has been a huge conversation starter during work for me. (:

Benefit CORALista blush This has been my go-to blush during the warmer months. It gives a very natural hint of colour and glow to my cheeks. I'm not a huge blush person, because I tend to accidentally go overboard frequently, but this blush is very light and sooo easy to buff out. Another "benefit" (haha, pun!) is the sweet, floral scent. I can sit here and sniff it for days!

Stila Kitten Eyeshadow I completely forgot about this eyeshadow! Being my usual lazy self, my everyday eye routine has just been doing a quick sweep of this baby over my lids with multiple coats of mascara, and I'm out the door in a few minutes.

Making to-do lists To avoid becoming a total sloth, I've been making to-do lists, so I can tell my parents at the end of the day "Hey, look, I'm still doing shit even though it's summer, get off my ass."

Sleeping in Oh, my -- do I loveee summertime! I've been getting an average of nine hours of sleep every night while still being somewhat productive every day.

Midol Really, very self-explanatory. Screw Advil -- where have you been all my pubescent life?!

OUT:
Benefit "That Gal" Primer Seeing as I use the term "that gal" at least twice a day, I had high expectations for this product. When applied before my foundation, I did not see any of the radiance it promised me, and I didn't notice it evening out my skin tone. However, when used over foundation, it has a similar effect as the Benefit High Beam, only without the shimmer. The sweet, strawberry candy scent is a silver lining, but not worth the $28.

New student surveys Gosh, what a huge waste of time! Especially for universities I'm not even going to. But they always try to coax poor students to complete them with drawings for free iTouches and $100 gift cards. After wasting 10 minutes, I wasn't even halfway done, so I threw my arms up and clicked the little red 'X' in the top right corner. If I had known universities would do this, I would have just applied to one and a community college.

World Cup Maybe I'm just really biased (because I'm Korean), but after South Korea lost, the World Cup has gotten pretty dull. Although, I think Germany and Netherlands will be the final two with Deutschland winning it all!

Spending money My awful, minimum-wage part-time job has made me realize that a dollar does not get anyone very far nowadays. Although I work at the mall, I rarely eat out anymore, which is very unlike me. During the school year, I used to go to fast food joints like Chipotle, Micky D's, Panera, Chicken Out, Chik-fil-a, etc. at least twice a week. Now, I only go maybe once a week.

What are your ins and outs right now?
